Recently promoted to the Regional Service for Sensitive Investigations, Inspector Jack Caffery did not expect to be put to the test so soon. In Greenwich, not far from the brand-new Millennium Dome, five female corpses are discovered in a vacant lot, made up and mutilated according to a strange ritual: a bird is found sewn into the chest of each victim.
